Gwendolyn's Picture

Hi. I’m Gwendolyn. Welcome to my website. Look around and you’ll see a little of my busy life. I’m an actor, an author, and a lover of all things animal with a particular affection for dogs and dragons.

My acting career has veered heavily toward comedy. One of the giggliest moments of my life came when a man barrelled across the lobby of a theater to greet me at the stage door, declaring, “You are so funny.” Barely able to form the words, I stuttered, “Thanks. You too, Billy Crystal.” I have a lot of improv experience: I co-starred in the Boom Chicago pilot in Amsterdam while performing with Seth Meyers and Allison Silverman, I toured the Americas with the funniest date rape prevention show out there, Sex Signals, and I made Larry David laugh as featured background on Curb Your Enthusiasm. (My sister demanded I put that credit in. There you go, Dawn.)

But my real joy lies in the written word. I adore writers. It may come from being classically trained. I studied with the greats at Illinois State University. It may come from reading every book I could get my hands on since the moment I could read them myself. Before then, I’m told, I carried books around in my teeth. I have performed some of the great works in Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as touring America and a little of Canada with Shenandoah Shakespeare.

My novels are heavily inspired by my theatrical training and world travels. And by the fact that books gave me a broader world view than I could have gotten otherwise growing up in a small Ohio town. I write about found families and self-acceptance and, of course, dogs and dragons.

It was in fact, my first published novel, Hardt’s Tale, that led me to audiobook narration. As I sat in a theater lobby in Burbank, CA, waiting to see the premiere of the famous Henry Ong’s latest play, the man himself brought a copy of my newly published book to me and announced that I would be reading an excerpt. [He quietly told me that the stage floor wasn’t quite dry and I needed to help him stall.] After reading a selection, during intermission, and throughout the after party, numerous audience members — Los Angeles Theater regulars — came up to me to say, “You’re narrating your own audiobook, right?” It felt to me like the only answer was, “Yes.” And I went home and learned how to do it.

Since that fateful evening, I have narrated over three hundred audiobooks. Over the years, my skills and my equipment have improved. I now record in a cave of sound blankets on a Neumann TLM102 with a Scarlett Solo interface. I edit with Audacity and have earned thousands of five star reviews.

Look around the site. Take a listen to some audiobook samples, to my voice over reels. Watch some clips. I’m particularly fond of the stage combat heavy Hicks clip. If you’re looking for an actor, a narrator, or you’d just love to turn my Wyrdos Universe into the next Marvels, please email me at wendoglen@gmail.com.
